Herbarium F.A. Marschall von Bieberstein (1768-1826)
Baron Friedrich August Marschall von Bieberstein was born in Stuttgart, on the 30th of July
1768. His scientific career began in 1792, when he entered Russian military service in the
Crimea.
He spent almost three years in the Crimea which, at that time, was still virtually unexplored
territory. Marschall von Bieberstein had first become interested in the natural sciences during his
youth, and here he was able to indulge this interest to the full.
