They are treasure houses of historical, archaeological, political, economic, sociological,
commercial and statistical data. IDC Publishers offers three main series on microfiche:
The Imperial Gazetteers, the Provincial Series and The District Gazetteers. The bibliography (1970)
lists 1,344 district gazetteers, published in the twenty provinces of British India.
