Herbarium A. Van Royen (1704-1779)

Order Background Specifications Sections

National Herbarium of the Netherlands.

The main Herbarium consists of sheets on which the specimens are usually mounted in the pots and other paraphernalia that were customary in the mid-18th Century Dutch collections. On the sheets the text is written that was used for the Prodromus and often more or less verbatim cited by Linnaeus in the Species. By consequence the Herbarium contains a great number of syntypes and even holotypes of Linnean names and is therefore one of the major herbaria to be consulted in solving problems in nomenclature and typification.
Approximately 10,000 specimen.
