The celebrated professor Cavanilles was born in Valencia on the 16th of January 1745. From 1977 to 1781 he lived in Paris, where he followed twin careers as a clergyman and a botanist.From Paris he moved to Madrid, where he was to remain the rest of his life. From 1801 to 1804, Cavanilles was director of the Botanic Garden and Professor of Botany. His most important publications are "Monadelphiae classis dissertationes decem." and "Icones et descriptiones plantarum, ...".
