On December 14, 1727 the first Turkish printing house was established in Istanbul. The director of the press was Ibrahim Müteferrika (1674-1745), a Hungarian convert to Islam. The earliest printed works from the Ottoman Empire are important source material for the history of Ottoman culture; the transmission of knowledge from Europe to the Ottoman Empire and back; and book history in general. This IDC publication offers the entire collection of books issued from the Müteferrika Press, which are extremely rare.
