Institutional Services

As a result of the many projects that IDC has carried out since our start in 1957, we have developed highly specialized skills and acquired experience that could be of use in many projects concerning primary sources.

Recording facilities
IDC is able to record unique and vulnerable works on location using analog or digital equipment. In 2004 we have recorded materials in, for example, the Royal Institute for Art History in the Netherlands; the university of Amsterdam, the Institute for Social and Political History in Moscow, the Library of the Academy of Sciences in St. Petersburg, the World Council of Churches in Geneva, the Biblioteca della Società di Studi Valdesi, Torre Pellice in Italy, and of course on our own premises in Leiden.

Our photographers are used to being self-supporting and to working under difficult conditions. They are trained to handle the materials with all the necessary care, but also to work according to an agreed production planning. The quality of their work meets the accepted standards in the field of preservation microfilming.

Bibliographic Services
The importance of providing access to the collections that we offer has grown over the past years. This resulted in a bibliographic department developing metadata together with the sources that we offer. We have adopted international accepted standards such as:
  • MARC21 for the exchange of bibliographic records
  • AACR2 for the description of monographs and serials
  • EAD finding aids for archival collections,
  • APPM for the description of archives, personal papers and manuscripts

  • Using a team of highly qualified internal staff, together with a network of freelancers that are trained in using the above standards, we can create metadata for each collection, irrespective of the challenges that are posed by the unique qualities of the source materials.

    Duplication facilities
Although mainly focused upon the duplication of analog carriers, IDC offers various kinds of duplication facilities such as microfiche and 35mm microfilm duplication, Computer Output to Microform, both bi-tonal and grayscale, Printing On Demand, based on digital sources.

Due to the character of our offerings we are able to manage orders for a single fiche, or one POD booklet, as well as large volume orders.

If you have questions regarding these facilities and services or want to explore the possibilities to use them yourselves, please contact us.
