Biographical note The missionary David Frédéric Ellenberger, born in 1835, left for Lesotho in 1860, and during the more than 45 years of his ministry in Lesotho, collected everything which could possibly concern the history of the people. Provenance Originally collected by David Frédéric Ellenberger, maintained by his son René Ellenberger (who added further documents), and in 1969 partly edited by his grandson Paul Ellenberger, co-founder of the Morija Museum in Morija, Lesotho, where the archive is housed. Ellenberger's collection now forms part of the archives of the Lesotho Evangelical Church, the successor of the Paris Evangelical Missionary Society in Lesotho. |
