Biographical note The Fruchtbringende Gesellschaft (Fruitbearing Society), also known as the Palmenorden because its emblem was the then-exotic coconut palm tree, was founded in 1617. Its members included the poets Martin Opitz and Andreas Gryphius, and other prominent literary figures such as Georg Philipp Harsdörffer, Justus Georg Schottelius, Friedrich von Logau, Philipp von Zesen, and Johann Michael Moscherosch, all represented by works in the collection.
