Guide Printed guide with list of places, sites and collections in alphabetical order; list of fiches and their contents; and list of objects and negative numbers. Biographical note Hans Wolfgang Müller (1907-1991) began his career as an Egyptologist at the Egyptian Museum of Berlin. He traveled with professor Richard Hamann to Egypt in autumn 1937 to embark on a photographic expedition up the river Nile. After World War II, he visited nearly every museum and private collection in Europe to study and photograph Egyptian objects d'art, especially sculpture in the round. In Egypt, he carried out archaeological and epigraphical work in the tombs of the nobles on the Qubbet el-Hawa near Aswan and, after a promising survey, he initiated the Munich excavations at Minshat Abu Omar in the Nile Delta. Provenance The photography archive is housed in the Egyptology Institute Heidelberg, where it is kept on loan from the Library of Heidelberg University. |
